Celebrating Connie

Image
Ivan had been bugging me about having a crab meal for months. I finally agreed, and he killed two birds with one stone by inviting me to an early birthday celebration for his downline, Connie. Connie lived at Kota Kemuning, so it was considered gallivanting . Luckily, there were no police roadblocks. Actually it was my first time meeting Connie. She had been bugging KH to bring his spouse, so there I was. She's very friendly, and lives with her 5-year old daughter, Little Connie. Her daughter is really full of energy. The moment I walked into the living room, she jumped into my arms. Super friendly! Ivan packed two varieties of XXL crabs from Crab B Seafood Restaurant at Puchong Jaya-- sweet and sour, and salted egg. The birthday girl prepared a platter of raw oysters, and another platter of cheese-baked oysters. Oh la-la! It was a very satisfying meal. To crack the shell, Connie put a large pestle and mortar on the dining table! Surprisingly, Little Connie is not picky with food,

Treating TummyFull

Image
KH arranged a small birthday dinner with TummyFull at Little Bing , Sri Petaling. The restaurant looked classy and would impress most dinner guests. According to one of the reviews on Google Maps, both the owners were from the hotel industry in Singapore. When dining there, the signature fish pot is recommended. But since there was only three of us, it didn't make sense to order that premium dish. We opted for the spinach in fish soup which used the same soup base. It was pretty good, and had strips of fried sweet beancurd skin for added texture. We weren't alone in the restaurant. Another table was occupied by some lawyers talking business. One 'aunty' was particularly annoying with her whiny and loud voice dominating the whole place.  After dinner, we explored the area for tong sui . Found Tang Tang Dazhangfu , a place that looked very much like a Hong Kong char chan teng . Anyway, the tong sui was vile. Utter rubbish. Hahaha. Guess we owe him a tong sui treat!

Pre-MCO Binge

Before the Tabligh Covid-19 cluster exploded into the media in March, not many people knew what Tabligh was about. For years, I had been seen their members take the LRT to Bukit Jalil station, but I never knew what group they belonged to. Often see in long white robes and turbans, the members were mostly from out of town judging from the bags they carried. When the news came out, mum was actually curious about Masjid Jamek Sri Petaling, the headquarters of the Malaysian Tabligh chapter. From Kuchai Avenue, we drove to Bandar Baru Sri Petaling to take a look ( after my last haircut before the commencement of the MCO ). The usually busy Jalan Radin was actually quiet, and no cars were parked along it. When we turned into the commercial area, the roads were also abnormally clear. We actually parked to go buy egg tarts at Tong Kee . After we had done our shopping, we spotted a Tabligh member heading in our general direction.  Jumped into the car as fast as we could. Haha.  Also had the

SimonSays

Several Simons have the "QB" postfix in my phone book which means that they play for our team. Recently I added another Simon, who is a mutual friend of SimonLover and Janvier. I'll christen him SimonSays. We started off chatting in Instagram and further interaction with him revealed that he's also an underwear collector like moi . Yay! One day, he messaged about a STUD sale in Robinsons,  The Gardens Mall. He was nice enough to offer to get some for me at MYR30 a box. And so he got me two pairs, and we scheduled to meet up on a Saturday afternoon. We met up at Mokka Cafe , Jalil Link during lunch time. Truth be told, he looks better in person, more attractive. And he has a nice voice. Before you guys buzz me about his contact number, he's actually happily attached. I paired Mokka's nasi lemak with cooling cup of Oolong milk cream. And since I had a one for one offer for the Entertainer app, I forced SimoSays to eat. Got to know him better and turns out

Haji Honolulu

Image
Hari Raya Haji was a day I spent at Sunway Pyramid with mum. To ensure sanity, we arrived early enough to easily find parking. As usual, we were like fish out of water at Sunway Pyramid. Don't really know what to shop, and what to eat there. Honolulu Cafe looked like something new, so we walked in. Turns out that this latest charchanteng is an extension from the main shop in Wan Chai, Hong Kong which is famous for its flaky egg tarts since the 1940s. In an attempt to gauge the quality of the food, we shared an egg tart, pineapple bun, and a plate of rice with roasted duck and roasted pork. Both pastries were pretty good, but the roasted duck was bland. Roasted pork was delicious though. A cup of their coffee is RM6.40, not exactly cheap.  Met JC that evening, a new friend from Kuching. He was starting a new job in Kuala Lumpur after a few false starts in his hometown. Picked him up from his condo in Taman Yarl and brought him to Happy Garden for a late dinner. Then we had c

Spiderman x Guitar

Mum and I returned to the OUG morning market after a short 'holiday'. My fave noodle stall was really on a holiday, so I had curry noodles instead. So thick and satisfying. What was left in the bowl was like chili paste! Also got my Teochew Kuih fix. Mum got her hair done, and great timing too because Cutiepie invited us to a party that evening. It was her darling daughter's birthday. A small affair with a couple of friends and family. Sis and the kids were also invited. Food was catered from a contact on a FB mummies group, a place where entrepreneurial housewives can make an extra buck advertising their services. Big Monster loved the Indian food so much that he had three servings. The birthday girl was kinda moody that night, but she lit up when the time came to cut her cake. Never in my life had I seen a Spiderman guitar cake. Definitely something that everyone needs to see at least once in their life.

Babysitting Birthday

Celebrated Cutiepie's birthday at Morganfield's, IOI City Mall on Prophet Muhammad's Birthday. Makes sense to celebrate a belated birthday on a birthday, right? She was supposed to ditch her kids, but her husband won out in the end. Doesn't matter since I brought mum and Little Monster as well. KH and SK also joined in. Arrived late because we were caught in an unexpected traffic snarl. Some smart ass decide to close 3 out of 2 lanes for resurfacing. When we saw Cutiepie, she was a little disheveled. She told us that we just missed a shouting match between her children that quickly spiraled into a wrestling bout at the center court. Gasp. We quickly got seated at Morganfield's , but the fighting didn't stop. Very spirited siblings. Her youngest daughter is really feisty and cute. Haha. We ordered some ribs, sausages, fried pork, and salad. Service at the restaurant was a little icky as I think the service staff don't have a good grasp of the English la

Peng, Pokka, and Porcupine

Recently heard that one of my Form 6 classmates had moved back to KL from Singapore. She had been working there for a decade. It had been years since I met her, so together with Peng ( another Form Six classmate ) we planned a CNY get together. We met up at Peng's condo in Bukit Jalil. The security was more stringent than usual. Visitors register at the gate AND at the lift lobby. But that does not gain you access. The host must personally bring the guests up. Leceh . Anyway, the gathering didn't materialize as planned. The friend that we were supposed to meet had to cancel because her mother-in-law was suddenly warded for pneumonia. Whatever the case, we got to catch up with Peng. Basically had our lunch there munching on the biscuits and snacks. In the evening, had a movie and dinner date with The Tribe. Customary to watch a crappy CNY production. This year we chose "The Fortune Handbook" , a horrible export from Singapore starring Mark Lee and Christopher Lee
